Kaya at the IPF world championships

This past week @kyg.fit competed at the IPF World Championships in Druskininkai, Lithuania!

Kaya went 9/9, finishing the day with a 13.5kg PR total of 507.5kg; consisting of a 195kg squat (+6kg), a 107.5kg bench (+4kg) and a 205kg deadlift (+2.5kg).
Kaya broke the national bench and total record in her weight class and matched the record on both squat and deadlift!

I have a lot of thoughts about prep, but I’ll try to keep it concise. The main point I want to bring home is that I’m super proud of Kaya for being able to pull herself up again after a rough few months and how she was able to regain focus and show up the way she did on the day.

After Uni-cup we continued the insane momentum we had going into that comp and she looked the strongest she ever has without any signs of slowing down. Shortly after however, circumstantially, things changed a lot in her life and training suffered because of that.

During the last few weeks of training squat started to pick up again after losing a ton of bw and things just feeling shaky.
When we were warming up, things looked good but when she stepped on the platform, I instantly thought to myself that this was the strongest I had seen her. The second of 190kg was already a 1kg comp PR and moved absurdly easy. Our planned 3A attempt was 195kg to walk away with a win after the prep we had and she destroyed it.

Bench was pretty much the same story, a rough time in prep but when she stepped on the platform she was moving everything without any apparent strain. The planned 3A attempt of 107.5kg got absolutely destroyed!

Pulls held on pretty well in training, nothing crazy and we still saw a dip together with the other lifts but less so. On her second attempt we secured the 500kg total mark, a huge milestone! After her second attempt of she mentioned that grip wasn’t feeling super secure so we opted for the 3B of 205kg.

Looking back, every lift had more in the tank and as mentioned before, this was for sure the strongest Kaya we’ve ever seen. To know there was more left after a rough few months, I couldn’t be more happy with this day and I’m beyond excited to keep building and getting better 🤝
